English Rose: Classic Trench and Lace Dress

For this post we were inspired both by Wendy Nguyen and Burberry Prorsum’s Spring/Summer 2014 collection.

This tri-colored lace dress first caught our eyes after seeing a post of Wendy wearing a similar style dress by MSGM. We were convinced the dress was a good investment after seeing how Wendy was able transform it into a top, a skirt, and also a tunic.

At first we were hesitant about making a post with this dress because many other bloggers have done so already, but we knew we had to put this outfit together after seeing Burberry Prorsum’s latest collection. When you come across the name Burberry, the first image that pops into your head is probably their iconic trench coat, but head designer Christopher Bailey has been reinventing their iconic trench every season.

Bailey’s newest spin on their iconic trench was truly brilliant. After being inspired by an English rose, he successfully features elegance and romanticism in his collection by using a variety of lace patterns.

Our combination of a tri-colored lace dress and trench coat pays homage to Bailey’s latest collection, and highlights Wendy’s creativity when styling a single dress.

Emerald Blazer

The color of fall 2013 is emerald! There are many ways to incorporate emerald into your style this season. You can include subtle hints of emerald with an emerald nail, or you can go bold and wear a pair of emerald pants (which pair nicely with brown rider boots). For our first post, we decided to incorporate emerald into one of the most versatile items that every closet should have: the blazer.

An emerald blazer is not just a great pop of color, but it demands attention! Although blazers are typically associated with a more professional and sophisticated dress code, a blazer can also be dressed down with T-shirts, dresses, sweaters, jeans, and almost anything else imaginable.

Outfits: Feminine vs. Masculine

Feminine

For our first outfit we’ve paired the blazer with a simple—yet chic—black and white-striped jersey dress. Since the blazer and the dress are meant to be the focus of the outfit, we thought a simple nude heel would be best.

In our second outfit, we decided to change it up and go a little more masculine. We’ve paired the blazer with a light white-laced top with some dark-wash jeans. For the shoes we decided on these cognac oxfords, which provide a nice contrast to the emerald color of the blazer.
