Inspiration Boards: The Grand Budapest Hotel
11:06 PMThe Hotel
While this isn't exactly a costume, the pink gradient on the outside of the hotel provided a perfect opportunity to play with color-blocking. We used two different shades of pastel pink for the outfit itself, with touches of white and gold in the accessories -- similar to how the body of the hotel is painted two shades of pink with white trim. We chose structured pieces to mimic the architecture of the building.
MSGM pink blouse, $175 / TIBI pink crop top / Topshop short sleeve shirt / Whistles flare skirt, $59 / TIBI pleated skirt, $235 / Warehouse flare skirt, $6.56 / Gianvito Rossi leather pumps, $480 / Dolce&Gabbana dolce gabbana shoes / Gianvito Rossi leather pumps, $480 / Vince Camuto genuine leather handbag / Like Dreams white handbag, $56 / Monsoon summer purse / LK Designs white earrings / Box chain necklace, $6.56 / Talullah Tu pearl necklace, $45 / Gold jewellery, $10 / Astley Clarke diamond ring, $520 / Trina Turk gold jewelry / Blush / Mac cosmetic / Stila lip glaze / Marc Jacobs perfume fragrance, $39 / Sephora Collection lip treatment / NARS Cosmetics nail polish / Opi nail polish, $16
Zero Moustafa - Lobby Boy
The Lobby Boy outfit was fairly easy to make. The bright hues paired beautifully and we simply translated the structured elements from the original costume into blazer with pants and peplum top with pants combos. The outfit on the left is more true to the original while the outfit on the right is a little more girly and fun with the peplum top and wire head-wrap. We found the perfect reference to the bold "LOBBY BOY" lettering on his cap with an equally loud Moschino clutch complete with the gold lettering. And of course, the outfits wouldn't have been complete without L'Air de Panache and some mustache references :).
Alexander McQueen peplum top, $470 / Gucci clothing / Jason Wu slim fit pants, $545 / Oscar de la Renta twill pants, $405 / Settantatre LR red shoes, $135 / Charlotte Olympia red shoes, $525 / Linea Pelle zip wallet / Moschino wallet, $425 / Miss Girl leather strap watch / RED Valentino red headband / Circle sunglasses, $2.62 / Mykita circle glasses, $350 / Lipstick / River Island The little book of moustaches, $3.93
Agatha
Agatha's look was slightly more difficult because we had a hard time deciding what pieces to use to replicate her costume. The possibilities seemed endless -- blue dress with pink long-sleeved, collared top underneath, blue skirt with pink top, pink dress with blue cardigan, etc. etc. That's why we ended up including a variety of options so you can mix and match to your heart's desire! We stuck with the soft color scheme of her uniform and tried to use simple pieces that would add just a hint of femininity to any outfit.
Sonia by Sonia Rykiel blue dress, $220 / Bea Dot long dress / Darling summer dress, $47 / Miu Miu cardigan, $370 / Jigsaw silk blouse, $38 / MANGO long sleeve shirt, $23 / MERCI single breasted trench coat / Lauren Ralph Lauren wool coat, $180 / J W Anderson pleated skirt, $125 / Salvatore Ferragamo flat, $420 / BC Footwear blue shoes / Chloé leather handbag, $1,390 / Pink backpack, $46 / Sweet & Co. silver earrings / Fendi silk scarve, $230
Madame D.
Madame D. made only a brief appearance in the film, but we couldn't resist recreating this lavish woman's look. The outfit on the left is older and more similar to the original costume while the outfit on the right is a younger and more modern twist on the look. Naturally, only timeless (and expensive) pieces, such as a quilted Chanel bag, Christian Louboutin heels, and Chanel perfume could do such a wealthy woman justice.
Oasis yellow sleeve dress, $26 / Chicnova Fashion collar top / Lapel jacket, $93 / Dolce Gabbana oversized coat / Brown pencil skirt / Christian Louboutin black high heel pumps / Gianvito rossi pumps, $185 / Chanel leather shoulder handbag / Yves Saint Laurent shoulder strap handbag / Tory Burch earrings jewelry, $140 / Kate Spade statement drop earrings / Kate Spade bow jewelry / Henri bendel jewelry / Forzieri silk lined leather glove / Meteo by Yves Salomon scarve, $280 / Giorgio armani lipstick / Rimmel lipstick / Chanel eye makeup / Le Métier de Beauté liquid eye liner, $74 / Chanel floral fragrance
"Rudeness is merely the expression of fear. People fear they won't get what they want. The most dreadful and unattractive person only needs to be loved and they will open up like a flower."
