One of the biggest trends we've seen this year has been midi lengths. It has a classy and elegant silhouette that instantly makes your outfit look put-together. Since we're such huge fans of this trend, we decided to put together two outfit posts for different types of midis - here are our a-line midi looks!
For this post we figured it was time to do a post on someone who has inspired our fashion style, and even our blog’s address. Elie Saab’s big break came when Halle Berry wore his sheer flower-embroidered and red taffeta gown at the 2002 Oscars.
Ever since, Elie Saab has been a dominant force in fashion and is perhaps the best thing that has happened to red carpet gowns since Valentino and Versace. Elie Saab has a legacy of stunningly beautiful dresses, and they have been worn by the likes of Angelina Jolie, Emma Stone, Beyoncé, Taylor Swift, Mila Kunis, Emma Watson, and Katie Holmes.
Elie Saab's Spring 2014 Couture Collection was no different. One particular gown worn by Maria Borges stole the show and inspired this ensemble.
Our take on Maria’s gown features a floral midi skirt and a simple black-laced top. The focus of this outfit is the floral patterned skirt, so we thought some red suede pumps and a matching red lip would compliment the colors on the skirt.

With the release of the third season of BBC's Sherlock, I was inspired to put together a Sherlock Holmes outfit. However, rather than basing it off of BBC's Sherlock, we took our inspiration from the costumes of a couple older predecessors:
Plaid is not only a staple in Mr. Holmes' ensemble, but also on the runway. Below are designs produced by English designers that highlight plaid.
For our Sherlock Holmes inspired outfit, we focused on a taupe wool skirt with built-in suspenders. It perfectly showcases the iconic plaid print associated with Sherlock Holmes. We decided to compliment the girly silhouette of the A-line skirt by tucking in a cream lace dress. The dress features a cute peter pan collar and thin velvet bow. For finishing touches, we used a black leather belt and black patent leather shoes to match the velvet bow on the collar.
